Many of us automatically think “curriculum” when it comes to home school supplies.  But a variety of “hands-on” materials are necessary as well.  If we have a list of these at hand, it’s easier to take advantage of periodic sales and yard sale bargains!

Here’s a list of home school items you may want o stock up on during the July/August school sales.  Items in blue are those I think are necessary or extremely helpful.

First off, here’s a list for Mom and Dad.

Film, plan book (a composition book is fine), blank audio tapes, 1 clear plastic container/tub per child (big enough to hold work and art projects, small enough to fit under the bed), for middle and senior high children, a “filing box” would be a helpful organizer

Glue (liquid, glue sticks don’t work well on art projects)

Clipboard

Copy paper for drawing/art

Construction paper

Sheet protectors

Stapler/staples

Tape

Paper clips

Rubber bands

Watercolors

Thermometer

Magnets

 

Home School Supplies For 8-10 year olds

Scissors

Calculator

White-Out

Index cards

Computer disks

 

Home School Supplies For  for ages 11 and up

Quality wins out over quantity here.  During these years children become interested in longer, more in-depth areas of study. 

Items you may have to invest in include an expensive calculator for math and science supplies.
